Every week we will be listing a great film, TV show and short film that we love and we think you will too. Time to put the feet up, crack open a beverage and enjoy.
Issue #12
This weeks shows are all dealing with loss. Loss of place, people and pets. All very different in style but all incredibly moving and poignant. As the short film is a documentary, it is particularly gut punching.
THE MOVIE: Last Blackman in San Francisco
This film is beautiful. The slow build through out. The confident performances. The poetic writing and the fascinating characters. The title is pretty straight forward as to what it's referring to but the film is so much more. The characters are rich and complex and the tale is not as straight forward as you'd think. Add in a couple of brilliant outsiders and you've got one gem of a film here. Starring Jimmie Fails (also the writer) & Jonathan Majors
THE TV SHOW: After Life
A slight move away from the more straight up comedy that Ricky Gervais is known for, After Life still has its moments but over all it is about a man trying to come to terms with grief. The different stages a person goes through. The new world view they establish. Of course it has it's hilarious moments, it is Ricky Gervais after all, but the really great scenes in the show rarely draw a smile and that's why this show is an interesting, new avenue Ricky Gervais has pursued.
THE SHORT FILM: Last Days With Oden
If you are the sensitive sort like myself, then this may knock you for six. Simply about a man and he beloved dog, Oden. Have the tissues handy.
Have a great weekend.
